How to Book a Cat Guardian

As animal people, we all know it’s essential to have someone we can truly trust to look after our animals, when we need to travel. It’s great when friends or family can move in with your cats. But what about when they can’t?

1. Talk to us about your cats and needs.

We’ll listen carefully about your cats’ characters, needs, habits, and idiosyncrasies. We know each Guardian personally, so we'll know who's likely to be a great match.

Someone with your cats’ best interests at heart

People call us looking for the best care they can possibly find for their cats, from someone they can get to know, trust completely, and feel really comfortable lending their home to. Someone who’s friendly, capable, and completely reliable. And someone who genuinely, truly cares about animals and their happiness, and will want to look after your cats as well as they possibly can. In searching for, interviewing, evidencing, and monitoring every cat Guardian, we’re looking for all of these qualities in each individual.

2. See - and hear - who you like the sound of.

Be as familiar as we are with each Guardian’s animal experience, and why they like to cat-sit.

“From my point of view, I really appreciated it; because you can listen to somebody and think, actually, I’d be comfortable with that person in my home. … Her insight into how you get to know a shy cat, to me, given I have intensely shy cats … To me, it actually was very relevant about somebody demonstrating that they really understand cats.”

We know each Guardian personally

And we want to make it easy for you to, too. We don’t think it’s for us to simply say that cat Guardians we admit are great. Rather, it’s our job to admit each individual using our best judgement, and share the evidence with you so you can use your own, as well. You can sit in with our interview with each Guardian, and see their past experience.

3. Meet in person, at home with your cats.

Choose whom you’d like to visit, and decide afterwards if you’re a good match for each other.

Most of our Guardians are professionals with flexible diaries, who like to live in a quiet home across town with cats from time to time, either to focus on work, or to relax.

“I felt very welcomed by their owner whilst looking after Taggart and Erin, who are wonderful kitties. City Cat also made it super easy to arrange and I felt secure and valued.”

4. Reduce Pricing by Letting

For longer bookings, you might not even need to pay your Guardian at all.

“I am in a creative industry, I do have to kind of keep my mind fresh, and I do find moving around … no matter what that change of scene is - a different road, or a different window to stare out of, or - you know, it all keeps the juices flowing”

A fellow professional to make the most of home

As a Host, it’s great to know that your house, with its quiet space and location, is being put to good use. And it can pay for your cat-care! Many Guardians like receiving longer bookings as short lettings, in lieu of monetary payment.

5. Travel!

Your Guardian will step into your London shoes, living with and tending to your cats. So you can relax, and make the most of the opportunities your trip will bring!

The carefulness with which we admit Guardians ensures that issues arise very few and far between. And that success rate, in turn, affords us the ability to provide back-up with one of our own employees, in the very unlikely event that your Guardian should fall ill or suffer an emergency.

“The house looks super clean and plants and cat happy so thank you for such an excellent catsit. I don’t know what we would’ve done without you!”
